ARTEFATTO – Interview to Salvatore Morales

HW: What did you want to be when you grew up?

SM: I was fascinated by the military career.

HW: How do you explain your design?

SM: Timeless, Elegant, Pure

HW: Who introduced you to the art of Design?

SM: My mother. She has a lot of taste.

HW: Which musicians/photographers/designers are you a fan of?

SM: Difficult to give a concise answer, there would be many … I love Eric Clapton’s Blues Rock; Terry Richardson’s transgressive, narcissistic and vulgar photograph makes me smile; I value Hiroki Nakamura’s research into details and poetry; I like Carlo Scarpa’s brutalist architecture; I admire the narrative of Fabio Novembre; always amazed by the thought behind the details and spaces in modern Japanese architecture.

HW: What are you obsessed with right now?

SM: Given the current situation, I am dusting off the classics of Stanley Kubrick, David Lynch, Georges Lucas, and Federico Fellini.

HW: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

SM: Never look back.

HW: How important was it to find good mentors in your career?

SM: fundamental.

HW: Tell us a little bit about how you got started…

SM: I have never chosen to undertake this profession, but I found myself in this world completely by chance.

HW: Where do you get your inspiration from?

SM: Basically from everything I can … I really like women’s fashion, modern art, I am intrigued by true and authentic subcultures and I still use Tumblr a lot.

HW: What’s your best advice for someone who wants to do what you do?

SM: never stop studying, researching and learning!!! Work hard and try to be yourself.

HW: Can you introduce yourself?

SM: Hi, I’m Salvatore Morales, I have Taranto in my heart, and in life, I spend time designing things and collecting objects.

HW: What do you think is your biggest personal or professional success so far?

SM: Difficult to say. The road is still long.

HW: How would you describe your work?

SM: Complex, very funny, sometimes demotivating but basically rewarding. It is now a passion, I don’t consider it a job.

HW: What is the dream?

SM: Be a Director.

HW: What is fragility for you?

SM: A small mechanism in our head that makes us afraid of things.

HW: What is your biggest fear?

SM: Planes …. and I take lots

HW: What do you think of the link between psychology and art?

SM: Complex. Unable to answer. The concept of art changes according to its protagonists. Art is a very powerful means for the well-being of people and perhaps too much psychology is used to fully understand it. It should not be understood or contained but should be lived and experienced.
